Friday evening saw the Eastview girls’ lacrosse team lose a conference matchup to Rosemount 8-11. It was a game of runs for the offenses in a back and forth affair in the first half. The Irish scored the first goal of the game early. Jessica Wilhelm would tie the score at 1-1 with 21:34 left in the first half. Rosemount would score the next two goal to take a 3 to 1 lead with 11:27 left in the half. The Lightning would score the next four goals.
Claire Jordahl got the streak of goals started when she put away a rebound right in front of the Irish net with 8:43 left in the half. Wilhelm caught fire in the next five minutes and scored the next three goals. The final goal of the run would be scored when Chloe Benadum found the streaking Wilhelm in front of the net to bring the score to 5 to 3 in the Lightning’s favor with 2:23 left in the half. Rosemount would score the next goal to pull to within one goal less than a minute later. Eastview’s Annie Luzum would get two quick goals in the last :31 seconds of the half to pace the Lightning to a 7 to 4 halftime lead.
The second half, the Irish would control possession and methodically start chipping away at the Lightning lead. Their efforts resulted in a six-goal run over the course of the first 17 minutes of the second half. Natalie Pace would convert a free position on a nice setup and shot with 5:57 left in the half to bring the Lightning within 2 goals at 8 to 10. Rosemount would get a late goal to secure the 11 to 8 win over the Lightning. The Lightning next travel to play Chaska, Monday May 13th at 7:00 PM.
