The #18 Lightning’s 10 game unbeaten streak ended Saturday night at #13 Lakeville South, 2-3.
The Lightning started strong, controlling much of the first period and outshooting South 13-9. Two South goals in the last minute of the period, however, put the Cougars up 0-2 at the break.
As they have done all season, the Lightning fought back and struck quickly in the second. Natalie Bordson hit Nora Stepan who found Mikayla Kelley in the slot and Kelley ripped the puck into the upper corner to make it 1-2 at 1:29. The Lightning struck again when Betsy Bjerke jumped on a loose puck at the Eastview blue line, went the length of the ice, and put a laser bar-down to tie it 2-2 at 14:59. Unfortunately, South capitalized on a power play and re-took the lead 3-2 just before the end of the period.
The Lightning controlled the action throughout the third, outshooting South 14-6, but a number of great saves by the South goalie kept the Lightning off the board.
The Lightning’s record is now 14-5-2. They are back in action on Tuesday, January 21, at AVSA against #14 Burnsville. It’s Teacher Appreciation Night! Come out to celebrate our seniors’ favorite teachers and cheer the Lightning to victory! JV plays at 5:00 and Varsity at 7:00. #ChallengeAccepted Go Lightning.
