Mikayla Kelley scored the game winner with less than 3 minutes to go in overtime to push the Lightning past rival Apple Valley 4-3 in an absolute thriller at AVSA. Kelley scored 2 goals and had 1 assist to pace the Lightning and earn Eastview’s player of the game award.
The Lightning struck first when Nora Stepan ripped a laser from the point at 13:33 of the opening period. Kelley and Avery Chesek assisted on the power play goal and the Lightning led 1-0 after one. Shots were 6 to 7.

The Eagles put two in the back of the net to take a 3-2 lead midway through the third, but the Lightning stood strong. At 11:21, Chesek beat an Eagle defender and the goalie to score unassisted and tie the game at 3. Lauren Johnson turned away a number of Eagle shots to preserve the tie and force overtime. Shots at the end of regulation were 26-32.
At 5:04 of the overtime, Lauren Speegle dropped a pass for Kelley who picked it up along the side wall, deep in the Eagles’ zone. As she made her way toward the front of the net, Kelley beat two defenders and ripped the puck bar down for the game winner! Shots ended 30-35. Johnson was strong in the nets throughout the game.
