The JV Girls Basketball team played a great game last night in a tough loss to Burnsville. Down 7 points at halftime, the Lightning gradually chipped away at the lead until Vanessa Wright came up with a huge steal. Robyn Dayton tied the game at 37 with a layup on a great drive and assist from Olivia Ward. Burnsville tried to stall and hold for one shot, but active hands on defense caused a Blaze turnover. Eastview called a timeout and ran their sideline inbounds play to perfection. Savanah Gardner caught the ball in the corner, passed up a 3 point shot and dumped it down to Robyn Dayton on the block for a turnaround jumper and the first lead of the game. With the clock winding down and Eastview up 39-37, Burnsville put up an airball. The ball bounced around a few times and ended up in the hands of Burnsville’s best shooter. She drained a 3 at the buzzer and the Lightning fell 39-40 in probably their best game of the year. Olivia Ward led the team in assists, Vanessa Wright led the team in steals and Savanah Gardner had an incredible 4 blocked shots. Madi Wodele was the leading rebounder. Scoring for the Lightning were: Dayton-8, Gardner-7, Wright-6, Claire Pepin-5, Wodele, Ward and Lauren Machacek with 4 each and Britta Hagen with 1.
