The combined Eastview/Eagan JV Alpine Girls Ski team were the runners-up on Monday at Buck Hill, finishing second overall in the season ending JV Championship. Despite fresh snow, the course was slippery and challenging especially on the second runs.
The Eastview girls were led by Lilly Spade. Lilly had to touch the ground twice on her second run to prevent from falling and recovered nicely each time to finish 12th overall. Lillian Kurila put in two very strong runs to finish 16th overall with Kylie Nelson in 21st overall and was one of the very few skiers to improve her time on the second run.
Ellen Heunisch finished right behind Kylie in 22nd overall, and 8th grader Lily Ringold put in one of the best runs of the day. After putting in the 2nd lowest team time in her first run, Lily caught an edge with five gates remaining while on a great run and lost one of her skis. Instead of taking the time to gather the ski, click back in, Lily skied the last five gates on one ski to finish 29th overall. Alpine rules require that a skier must be in one ski as they cross the line, and Lily balanced her way impressively in a very memorable run. Emma Huppert overcame difficulty in her first run to finish off strongly.
Congratulations to the JV Girls on a runner-up finish for the 2018-19 Championships.
