Game Recap

The battle for the Apple (girl’s soccer edition) took place last night at Lightning Stadium. The game started out intense as both teams were hungry for their first conference win. Then on top of all that, playing your cross town rival always raises the intensity of the match. Apple Valley put on some early pressure but it was the Lightning who struck first. Sophomore, Molly Beckman who put pressure on the Eagle defense all night, hit a cracker from long range that beat the goalie just minutes before the first half. The second half saw the Lightning gain more and more possession as well as score two more goals. Both second half goals were scored by Sophomore, Haley Ford. The assists came from Junior, Emma Brechlin and Senior, Kealie Espindabanick. The Eastview Lightning are now 6-0 and play at Burnsville High School on Thursday at 5:30pm.

Game Recap

The Eastview Lightning played Cretin Derham Hall in the first game of the Drentlaw tournament hosted by Prior Lake High School. The Lightning needed to adjust to playing with a lot of new faces after graduating a very talented in class in 2014. The girls also had to adjust to playing on turf as the game was held at the Savage Dome fields. The game started evenly with both teams working out their first game jitters. The game’s only goal was a memorable rocket hit by Junior Defender, Mia Giorgi in the 31st minute. It was a direct kick from 30 yards out and Mia hit a screamer Tim Howard couldn’t have saved. It was perfection! In the second half the Lightning managed a few more scoring chances and the defense held true. Sophomore Claudia Pueschner, in her first varsity start, recorded the shut out with 12 saves. The Lightning play at White Bear Lake on Saturday at 2:00.

Game Recap

The Lightning traveled to White Bear Lake in their annual soccer match on Saturday. The game is always closely contested and is a great early season test. This year was no different. The scoring started in the first half when Senior captain Lizzy Fontes tucked away a rebound. The defense led by Mia Giorgi, Christina Barry, Kealie Espinda Banick and Senior captain Claire Pueschner did another great job of limiting White Bear Lakes chances. The lead was extended in the second half when Junior Emma Brechlin passed the ball to Senior Kylie Morken. Morken then hit a shot from 25 yards out that beat the goalie to the corner. Goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner made a big save on White Bear Lake’s second half break away to preserve the shut out. The Lightning host the defending state champions Minnetonka at home on Tuesday at 5:30.

Game Recap

The Eastview Lightning spent last Saturday (8/30) locked in a tough soccer match with the Raptors from East Ridge. Playing on a wide, turf field the game was played fast and with a lot of great technical play. Both teams were evenly matched and the game was back and forth. The Eastview defense had a difficult challenge in marking some great forwards from East Ridge. They were more than up for the challenge and were able to keep East Ridge off of the scoreboard for the entire 80 minutes. The defense, along with goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner, have allowed only one goal in five matches so far.The game’s only goal was also scored by a defender. Junior, defender Mia Giorgi scored her second goal of the season off a direct kick that sailed over the Raptor goalkeeper in the first half. The Lightning have started the season 5-0 and will wrap up their non-conference schedule with a trip to Duluth to play Duluth East High School next Saturday (9/6). The South Suburban Conference games start on the first day of school (Tuesday, September 2nd) against cross-town rival Apple Valley. The game will be played at Lightning Stadium at 7:30.
