The boys cross country team continued on their winning ways today, recording a near perfect score of 17. The top 6 runners for the Lightning of Gabe Mahlen (12th), Nate Getman (11th), Hunter Dunne (11th), Sam Setterlund (12th), Jack Hanson (10th), and Grant Piller (12th) ran a tight pack throughout most of the race. This group went out in pack with 4 runners from Shakopee intermixed with them as well. They came through the mile in approximately 5:11, and over the second mile the group of 6 Lightning runners were able to stay together, with only one competitor from Shakopee able to hang with them. After the two mile mark Mahlen picked up the pace, opening up a gap of 20 sec over the course of the final 1800m to continue his winning streak for the season. Getman and Dunne finished within 2 seconds of each other to take 2nd and 3rd. The scoring for the Lightning was rounded out by Setterlund and Hanson finishing in 5th and 6th.
The third wave for the Lightning, like the first wave, quickly established a dominant pack up front, and recorded a perfect score against their fellow third wave competitors from Eagan and Shakopee.
The Lightning compete on the same course Saturday, October 3rd
