The boys track and field team opened the 2019 season with a 5th place finish at the Northern Badger Large School Invitation this weekend. The meet got off to a good start for the Lightning in the boys mile where junior Sam Morgenstern ran the 3rd fastest indoor mile in school history of 4:38.36 for a 3rd place finish. Closely following him was sophomore Gabe Mahlen with the 5th fastest indoor mile in school history of 4:40.47 and a 5th place finish. Both Gabe and Sam took an aggressive start to the race and quickly established themselves as the two front runners, setting the pace for the race.
Following the mile was the boys 400m where junior AJ Green took home first place with a new indoor school record time of 51.39. In the boys 200m sophomore Cade Kloss ran a new PR of 24.45, while fellow sophomore Colby Rubischko PRd in the boys 800m with a time of 2:08.99 and a 6th place finish. In the only relay of the day the 4x400m team of Kloss, Rubischko, Morgenstern, and Green finished in 2nd place, just 4 hundredths off of first and breaking the old meet record with a time of 3:34.07. Senior Ben Danner finished in 7th place in the boys 3200m with a time of 10:39.3. In the field events, sophomore Sam Perona had a huge 3 and a half foot PR in the shot put.
