EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL NAMES NEW HEAD SOFTBALL COACH

APPLE VALLEY, MN- Eastview High School Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Athletics Matt Percival has announced the hiring of Sydney Dwyer as Head Softball Coach for the 2018-19 season.  Dwyer will replace Molly Kasper who resigned this past off-season from her head coaching duties to allow her the opportunity to spend more time with her family and continue as the Head Eastview Girls’ Basketball Coach.

Coach Dwyer is no stranger to coaching. She currently coaches 16U and 12U club softball teams at Starters Sports Training based out of Shakopee along with coaching athletes ages 12-18 in strength and performance.  In addition, she has spent the last couple of summers as a volunteer assistant helping out her former high school team in Iowa.

In high school, Dwyer was a standout, two-sport athlete for Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, IA. She was a four-year letter winner in both softball and basketball. In softball, she won awards for All-State, All-Conference, All-Metro, All-Academic, All-District, and All-Tournament team. In basketball, she won awards for All-Conference, All-Metro, All-Academic, and All-District where she still holds the school record for most 3-pointers in a season with 72. She was the 2014 Pleasant Valley Female Athlete of the Year and a 2014 Quad City Times Athlete of the Year Finalist.

In college, Dwyer played softball at the University of Minnesota. After switching between infield positions her first two years, she found her home at 1st base in her final two seasons starting every game as a junior and senior. In her time as a Gopher, she was a 3-time Big 10 tournament champion along with one regular season Big 10 championship. She won individual awards for All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament Team, All-Region, Academic All-Big Ten, Academic All-District, and NCFA All-American Scholar Athlete. She currently holds the school record for RBIs in a season with 76.

Dwyer graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Kinesiology in 2018. She is currently enrolled at the University of St. Thomas where she will receive her Master’s Degree and Teaching License in Physical Education and Health K-12.

ATTENTION ALL CURRENT EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYERS AND PARENTS:  There will be an opportunity to meet Coach Dwyer a short introductory “Meet and Greet” on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in Lecture Room C250 at Eastview High School.

Quote from Coach Dwyer:

“I could not be more excited to become a part of the Eastview family. Softball has been such an influential part of my life and has taught me valuable life lessons along the way. I hope to pass on some of these life lessons to the girls in the Eastview Softball Program.”

Quote from AD Matt Percival:

“I have been fortunate in my time as an AD to interview some amazing people for a variety of different positions.  Sydney Dwyer is, without a doubt, in that category.  Her playing accomplishments speak for themselves as one of the most accomplished athletes in Gopher Softball history, but what I am most excited for is her focus on her core values that transcend far beyond the softball diamond.  While her years of coaching experience may not be numerous, it is quite clear that she has a very bright future ahead as a teacher and a coach.  I could not be more excited for what she will bring not only to Eastview Softball, but to our entire Eastview Community”
