The boys track and field team began their competitive season with a partial squad at the Northern Badger Invite at the University of Wisconsin – Stout this weekend. The team was lead by some great performances by its’ underclassmen. Leading the way was freshman Josh Negussie cleared 5′ 10″ in his first high school high jump competition which was good for third place overall at the meet, and was the 4th best jump by a freshman in school history! Not to be outdone by his classmate, freshman Gabe Mahlen finished 5th in the 3200m with a time of 10:41.04 which makes him the 11th fastest freshman in school history at that event. While their senior by one year, sophomore Sam Morgenstern, took 4th in the 800 with the 9th fastest time by a 10th grader in school history of 2:06.5.
The top finish on the day went to senior Bryant Ruff who finished 2nd in the 3200m with a time of 10:06.1. It was a great start to the season for the Lightning. The team’s next competition will be at home in the Eastview stadium at 4 pm on April 3rd.
