News · Post-Season MSHSL Athletics Report for 2.12.18


It was quite the week for our Lightning teams in Winter Sport post-season competition!  Here is the latest:

 

Alpine Skiing:  9th Grader Kate Young and 10th grader Josh Doolittle both had great races at the Section 6AA Meet and qualified for the State Meet!  The State Alpine Meet will be held Wednesday, February 14th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik!  The first run is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

 

Nordic Skiing: Congratulations to the Eastview Girls Nordic Ski team on another trip back to state!  They had a great second half of the Section 1 Pursuit race and ended up in a tie for first.  They lost the tiebreaker and placed second in the Section, but still advanced to State.  Girls Varsity Team Members are Kareena Clendening, Gabby Kraemer, Josie Roberts, Kira Gunawan, Anna Schumann, Claire Nack and Annika Challgren.  Also, congratulations to Bryant Ruff on the boys side who earned himself a place in the state meet as an individual by finishing as the Section Runner-up.  The State Nordic Ski Meet is Scheduled for Thursday, February 15th in Biwabik starting at 10:00 a.m.  Due to the distance from Eastview of this event no fan buses will be offered, but if teammates and other fans choose to attend they will be allowed to do so with a note from parents.

 

Competition Cheer: Congratulations to the Varsity Comp Cheer Team coached by Tim and Mario Navarro who advanced to the UCA National Cheer Championships in Orlando, Florida this week.  They did not advance to finals, but had a great season!

 

Dance Team: The Lightning Dance Team competed with 14 teams in the Section 1AAA High Kick and Jazz Tournaments yesterday at Bloomington Kennedy High School and was crowned Section Champions in both High Kick and Jazz to earn a return trip to state!  They will compete in Jazz Prelims on Friday, February 16th at Target Center at approximately 2:50 p.m.  The AA/AAA Jazz Prelims session will start at 2:00.  As a result of the start time there will be an early release process for students wishing to attend, but due to the length of the event late into the evening fan buses will not be offered.  Stay tuned to a separate email about permission form process for dance team.  The top six teams will advance to Finals at 7:15 p.m. Friday night.  They will compete in High Kick Prelims on Saturday, February 17th at Target Center at approximately 2:45 p.m.  The AA/AAA High Kick Prelims session will start at 2:00.  The top six teams will advance to High Kick Finals at 7:15 p.m. Saturday night.

 

Girls’ Hockey: The girls’ hockey team received the #6 Seed in Section 3AA and opened up their Section Tournament at #3 Park on Wednesday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.  They upset the Wolfpack with a 4-1 victory.  They then faced #2 Seed Apple Valley in the Section Semis on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 1-0 victory  This avenged two earlier losses this season to the Eagles and they now advance to the Section Championship Game on Wednesday, February 14th at VMCC in Inver Grove at 7:00 vs. #1 Seed Eagan.  The winner advances to the State Tournament at the Xcel Center February 22-24.

 

Gymnastics: The Lightning Gymnasts have wrapped up their regular season and will next compete in the 3AA Section Championships at Woodbury High School on Friday, February 16th. Individuals and teams who advance to the State Tournament will compete at the U of M on February 23-24.

 

Wrestling: The Eastview Wrestling Team will compete in the Section 2AAA Team Tournament on Friday, February 16th at Lakeville North starting at 4:00.  The Individual Tournament will be held Friday, February 23rd and Saturday, February 24th at Shakopee.  All Individual and Team State Qualifiers will participate in the State Tourney at Xcel Center March 1-3.

 

Swim and Dive: The Boys Swim and Dive team is preparing for Sections next week.  Their Section Swim Prelims will be held February 21 at Bluewater Aquatic in Apple Valley.  The Diving Competition is February 22 at Cottage Grove Junior High and then Swim Finals are back at Bluewater on February 23.  Individuals and Relays that qualify for the State Meet will compete at the U of M March 1-3.

 

Boys Hockey: The boys won a big game vs. Lakeville South on Saturday to remain in a tie for first place atop the SSC Standings with one week left in the regular season.  Their playoffs are scheduled for February 22 and 24 and Section Championship Game is Thursday, March 1st at Braemar Arena in Edina.  Teams who qualify will participate in the State Tournament at Xcel Center March 8-10.

 

Girls Basketball: The girls still have two weeks left in the regular season and currently are in first place in the SSC and ranked #1 in the state with a record of 21-0.  Their playoffs are scheduled for February 28 and March 3 and Section Championship Game is Wednesday, March 7th at Concordia-St. Paul.  Teams who qualify will participate in the State Tournament at Target Center March 14-17.

 

CI and PI Hockey: Our Dakota Hawks teams are both off and running with their seasons and have three weeks left of regular season play.  Their playoffs are still TBD based on their regular season finish.  Their State Tournament, if they should qualify, will be held March 16-17 at Bloomington Jefferson.

 

Boys Basketball: The boys still have three weeks left in the regular season and currently in second place in the Section 3AAAA Standings.  Their playoffs are scheduled for March 6 and March 9 and Section Championship Game is Thursday, March 15th at Farmington.  Teams who qualify will participate in the State Tournament at Target Center March 21-24.
