Section 1 Nordic Ski Results – Eastview Skiers Bound for the State Tournament

The Eastview Boys and Girls Nordic ski teams competed in very cold weather Tuesday at Hyland Recreation Area, but the skiing was sizzling. Eastview skiers had many top performers as they competed for a chance to ski at the State Tournament at Giants Ridge next week.

In the Boys race senior Bryant Ruff continued his impressive results finishing 2nd of 58 skiers and earned a berth at the state tournament. The Eastview team finished 5th of 10 teams, with the same group of dedicated varsity skiers that have been working hard all year. Skiers for Eastview were senior Aidan Lau 17th, senior Tyler Dodge 31st, senior Alex Moon 32nd, and junior Sven Greseth 37th. Congratulations to a great season for the Lightning Boys Nordic Team.

In the Girls race it couldn’t have been any more exciting as Winona skied to a 10 point lead in the morning classic 5km races over 2nd place Eastview. The afternoon pursuit portion, which is a skate/freestyle race, featured incredible performances by all of the Eastview skiers as they attempted to catch Winona. At the end of the day of racing Winona and Eastview were tied at 350 points each. Unfortunately Winona won the Section 1 championship tie breaker but both teams will compete at the state tournament in Giants Ridge. Eastview was led by senior Kareena Clendenning 10th, junior Kira Gunawan 13th, sophomore Josie Roberts 15th, junior Anna Schumann 16th, sophomore Claire Nack 17th, sophomore Gabby Kraemer 19th and junior Annika Challgren 33rd.  Eastview skiers will compete in a field of 160 skiers next Thursday at Giants Ridge.

Congratulations to the Eastview Nordic Ski Team and good luck at State.
