Congrats the PI Dakota Hawks on winning the State Title on Saturday, November 18th at Stillwater High School! The Hawks opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Moundsview/Irondale/Roseville on Friday night. In the Semifinal game on Saturday the Hawks opened up a 6-2 halftime lead on Park Center, but the Pirates would rally to tie it at 6 with just two minutes remaining in the game. After a timeout the Hawks came out fired up and scored two goals in the next minute for an 8-6 win and trip to the State Championship game! In the finals the Hawks faced the Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka Robins. The Robins are a huge rival having eliminated the Hawks in post-season play the last seven years in a row in soccer alone. Add in hockey and softball and these two teams have become quite the rivals and powerhouses in PI sports. It was no surprise to anyone in attendance that it was an intense, nail biting battle from the opening kick to the final whistle. After trailing 1-0 the Hawks rallied to tie the game in the closing seconds of the first half. The second half featured some of the best passing, defense, hustle and teamwork of the entire season and the Hawks were rewarded with another goal and then held on for the 2-1 victory! Three Eastview Freshmen are members of the PI Hawks- Ryan Costley, Eddy Nelson and Daniel Sonnenberg. The state title was the 6th in PI Soccer and 20th for the entire Hawks CI and PI programs in all sports since 1997. It was the first in PI Soccer since 2006! We will honor our three EV team members at our next pep fest on Thursday, November 30th.
