The Lightning dropped a tough one on the road to top ten team Burnsville on Thursday night. The Blaze came out ready to rock and put the Lightning under pressure right away. The Lightning defense played well and goalkeeper Katlyn Varela stepped up and did a great job settling the team down. The Lightning gave up one first half goal on a breakaway but others started to turn the tide before the half.
The second half saw great efforts from Junior, captain Lauren Glas and Junior, Mikayla Walters. With more and more pressure the Burnsville goalie was tested often. Senior, Annemarie O’Keefe nearly buried a direct kick that hit the post and would have tied the game 1-1. Unfortunately it was not to be. The Blaze were able to score one more while the Lightning were pushing more players into the attack.
The Lightning will travel to Lakeville North on Saturday for another tough South Suburban match up.
