Apple Valley High School
Eastview High School
The Lightning did not get on the board first against cross-town rival Apple Valley on Tuesday but they did get on there more often. The final score was 4-1, after a 1-1 tie heading into halftime on Eastview Alumni and Community Night.
Senior Mariah Opheim decided enough was enough and took on most of the Apple Valley defense with only a minute to play in the first half. She was able to steal the ball, attack the defense and find Cora Smith who laid it off to fellow Sophomore Kate Geire. Kate used a fantastic cut back to beat the defense and score her first Varsity goal!
The second half was filled with plenty of Lightning possession and this time Mariah got on the board herself, twice! A goal were also scored by dribbling dynamo, Senior, captain, Taylor McGahn. Assists were dished out by Holly Sodomka (Senior, Captain) and Sophomore, Cora Smith.
The Lightning defense played well and were often the springboard to the offense. Junior, Katlyn Varela saw her first Varsity action in the nets and also recorded her first Varsity win.
The Lightning travel to top ten ranked Burnsville on Thursday at 7:00. Come out and support EVGS!
