The boys cross country team began their 2017 journey at today’s St. Olaf Showcase. The Lightning were lead by a strong performance by senior Bryant Ruff, who ran a consistent race methodically working his way through the pack of over 700 athletes to finish in 13th place with a new personal best time of 17:02. Following Bryant were two underclassmen, Gabe Mahlen (9th) & Sam Morgenstern (10th), and close on their heals were senior Jackson Lee and junior Ben Danner. These four athletes were only separated by 11 seconds at the finish, and the team will look for them to challenge one another all season.
There were some terrific performances turned in by the freshmen class at today’s meet. The 9th grade class was lead by Mahlen, following him was Sam Setterlund (19:11), Gabe Chambers (19:21), Grant Piller (19:34), Hudson Labno (20:01) and Russell Ostergaard (20:13). For the first 5k of their high school careers the class looked very strong and show great promise for the remainder of the season and the upcoming years.
