Game Recap

Saturday, the Eastview Boys Varsity hockey team beat South Suburban Conference opponent Shakopee 6 to 5. In a game that saw huge momentum swings for both teams, the Lightning would take control early in the game. Bryce Kelley would score his first varsity goal with a little less than three minutes into the game to take the 1 to 0 lead. Max Herzog and Jake Ford would be credited with assists. Eastview would continue to put pressure on the Sabers. That pressure would lead to Nate Bordson creating a turnover, collecting the loose puck, and burying a goal just underneath the crossbar to give the Lightning the 2 to 0 lead. Shakopee would then take the momentum with less than two minutes left in the period, scoring a goal and go into the first intermission trailing 1 goal to 2. Then thirty seconds into the second period the Sabers would tie the score 2 to 2. Eastview would answer almost immediately and take the momentum from Shakopee. Herzog would bury a blast from the blueline just 24 seconds later, giving Eastview back the lead at 3 goals to 2. Jesse Fan would be credited with the assist. Just 11 seconds later Ford would finish off a nice play set up by Zach Anderson and Jesse Fan. With the 4 to 2 lead Eastview would control the game the rest of the period and would enter the second intermission maintaining its 4 to 2 lead. It looked as if the Lightning would continue to control the game early in the third period as well. The Sabers would pull to within one goal with 6:02 left in the game. Trailing only 3 to 4, Shakopee started to really apply pressure on the Lightning. The Sabers would tie the score at 4 to 4 with 3:47 left to play. Now with the momentum firmly in their camp the Sabers would take a 5 to 4 lead less than a minute later. Then the first penalty of the game would be called and it would be a major penalty against Shakopee with 2:20 left in the game. The Lightning would use the penalty to secure the victory. Forty seconds into the power-play, Joe Stillings would tie the score at 5 to 5 with a goal from the blueline setup by Alex Cerrato and Ford. Then with just 47 seconds left in the game Bordson would bury the game winning power-play goal assisted by Cole Anders and Nick Hodgen; completing the comeback and securing the 6 to 5 win. Eastview next plays Lakeville North Thursday February 11th at Ames Arena at 7:00PM.
