Game Recap

Saturday, the Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey team earned a 5 to 2 victory over the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. The Lightning played with a lot of emotion in a game proceeded by honoring the memory of Patrick Schoonover and the “Play for Patrick” foundation by the Eastview hockey community retiring Patrick’s number 96 jersey. The Lightning set the tempo early and controlled the game with good puck possession and defense when the Raiders tried to mount an attack. Eastview would net the first goal with 9:48 left in the first period. Joey Stillings would fire the puck from the blue line with the assists for the goal coming from Nate Bordson and Tyler Kukowski. The Lightning would enter the first intermission leading 1 to 0. Eastview would take a 2 goal lead early in the second period when Zach Anderson finished off a puck just in front of the Raiders’ net. Nick Hodgen and Connor Bateman would assist on the play. Cretin-Derham Hall would get a chance late in the second period when they earned a power-play opportunity in the final minutes of the play. But, Jesse Fan would dash their hopes with his short-handed goal when he ripped a shot over the Raiders goalie’s blocker with 5 seconds left in the period. Eastview goalie Andrew Stern would earn an assist on the play when he passed the puck to a streaking Fan. The second period would end with Eastview leading 3 to 0. Cretin-Derham Hall would dictate the play early in the third period. The Raiders would earn a power-play goal with 12:21 remaining in the game to pull to within 2 goals. The Lightning would slowly take control back and at the midway portion of the third period take the lead back to 3 goals when Jake Ford finished off a Reese Orman pass on a play that was also assisted by Bateman. The Raiders would pull to within 2 goals once again with 6:19 left to play. But, with 2:54 left to play the Lightning’s Hodgen would rip a shot past the Raiders goalie on a play setup by Anderson and Cole Anders. Stern would earn the 5 to 2 victory with a 23 save outing. Eastview next plays Shakopee Thursday December 7th at the Hayes Park Arena at 7PM.
